The final bedroom that was redecorated over the winter is Hillstone Three. It features a whale print from Marion MacPhee who grew up in Glendale, just 5 minutes from Hillstone Lodge.
We bought this print at an art fair in London on the same day that we agreed the purchase of Hillstone Lodge. The sales agent at the fair had told us that Marion was Scottish and lived in Glasgow but it was only much later that we discovered she was actually from Glendale in Skye. Sometimes fate takes a hand in things....
Hillstone Three has Skye Weaver throws in deep blue along with an alcove painted in the same restful colour. This complements the etching of the whale and ties in with the sea which has inspired and influenced Marion’s work. Indeed the sea is a major influence on us here at Hillstone. The view of Loch Dunvegan from all the bedrooms means that we are never far from it and we often see seals, seabirds and (occasionally) dolphins.
